ABOUT

We want to buy safe products. We want to know that the items we own are legitimate. We want to support retailers who are doing business legally. AuthenticateMe puts this power of knowledge into consumers hands, enabling us to authenticate products on the spot.

AuthenticateMe works directly with companies to register their products so that quickly scanning a UPC or QR code with the AuthenticateMe app will verify that a product is safe, legitimate, and being sold by an authorized retailer.

With over 30 years of professional experience in global security, law enforcement, and investigations, Carlos Maza founded AuthenticateMe. Driven by connecting consumers and brands,  AuthenticateMe allows us all to work hand-in-hand as we keep marketplaces secure.

FAQs

WHERE CAN I FIND THE AuthenticateMe APP?

You can download the free AuthenticateMe app using the App Store or Google Play.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

AuthenticateMe partners with trademarked brands to label products with a unique, scannable identifier (a QR Code or barcode, for example). When you scan the code, you will receive information on whether or not the item is being sold by an authorized retailer.

WHY ARE THERE UNSAFE PRODUCTS ON THE MARKET?

The counterfeit industry is a criminal enterprise reaping profits in the multi-billion dollars. It is run by transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) that utilize slave and child labor. These TCOs finance terrorists’ organizations, engage in manufacturing processes that place lives in danger, harm the environment, and evade paying taxes… all in the interest of deceiving consumers and making significant profits. TCOs generally operate in locations where legitimate jobs are scarce and do not operate under the same rules as the genuine manufacturers. They create confusion for customs authorities as to what is and isn’t legitimate and place the integrity of brand names at risk with consumers.

Carlos M. Maza

President, AuthenticateMe
Retired Supervisory Special Agent

Carlos Maza’s understanding of the global counterfeiting threat businesses face led to the development of AuthenticateMe®: A small tech company focused on helping brands and consumers ensure products are authentic, and being sold legitimately.

Coming from a 35-year career in law enforcement, overseas diplomatic postings, international cooperation, and border security, Maza has had many successes, but one stands out. His innovative thinking led to the creation of Project Global Shield (PGS), a program aiming to thwart the smuggling of precursor chemicals that could be used to build improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which are weapons commonly used against American troops and U.S. interests overseas.

Now, Maza relies on his robust background to lead a team of supply chain security experts in their mission to innovatively apply proven solutions in patent protection, trademark authentication, and supply chain intervention.

Previous roles include:

  • Senior Manager for Operational and Compliance Risk, Capitol One
  • Senior Advisor on National Security, General Dynamics, assigned to Defense Threat Reduction Agency
  • U.S. Treasury Resident Advisor to the U.S. Embassy in Lima, Peru
  • HSI Deputy Assistant Director for Operations-West, Office of International Operations
